Book Review | Michael Flexer | Edmund's Struggle

Edmund's Struggle

Author: Michael Flexer
Title: Edmund's Struggle: Under The Spell Of The White Witch
Genre: Fantasy, Fiction, Adventure, Children, Magic, Young Adult

Pages: 63
Price: £2.80

Started: 10th April 2017
Finished: 10th April 2017

Synopsis: Edmund isn't happy when he and his brother and sisters are sent to the professor's house in the countryside. But when he follows Lucy into an old wardrobe and to the land of Narnia, things get much worse. There he meets the evil white witch, who convinces him to betray his family. Before Edmund knows it, he's in over head! How can he escape for the white witch's clutches and find the strength to help save Narnia and his family from a terrible fate?

Review: This is a short story extension to the C.S. Lewis novel, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, and it gives insight into Edmund and his actions in The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. Although this book is not full of action and excitement it is a good addition to The Chronicles Of Narnia. Having the insight into Edmund helps to understand his character and the choices that he makes. This short story shows that Edmund has made bad choices but is completely misunderstood. I can't say that this book gripped my attention but it is a great addition to the Narnia book series and for that reason alone it will have a permanent place on my bookshelves. This book is part of a four set short story. Each book revolves around a different child. The other three books follow Lucy, Susan and Peter. These books may not be read more than once if at all but they are worth having on the shelf for fans of The Chronicles Of Narnia. Each book adds detail and insight into the feelings and thoughts of the main characters as they embark on the amazing adventure to free Narnia from the control of the white witch.

Rating: 3/5 stars

I would have given this book a one or two star rating if it did not add to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.

Book Review | Pauline Baynes | Lucy's Adventure: The Search For Aslan

Lucy's Adventure: The Quest for Aslan, the Great Lion (The Chronicles of Narnia)

Author: Pauline Baynes
Title: Lucy's Adventure: The Search For Aslan
Genre: Fantasy, Fiction, Adventure, Children, Magic, Young Adult

Pages: 96
Price: £1.99

Started: 10th April 2017
Finished: 10th April 2017

Synopsis: At first Lucy Pevensie is sad when she is sent with her sister and brothers to the countryside to escape the dangers of wartime London. But when they arrive, something wonderful happens: a game of hide and seek turns into the adventure of a lifetime! In the magical land of Narnia, Lucy and her brothers and sister meet Aslan, the great lion, who calls them to fulfil their destiny - free Narnia from the evil white witch!

Review: This is a short story extension to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. It gives a slight insight to into Lucy and her thoughts as she embarks on this amazing adventure to free Narnia from the white witch and save her faun friend. I have to be honest and say that I did not find this book particularly interesting and I did struggle to keep my attention on this book. However, it is worth the time to read as it is always interesting to get an idea of the thoughts and feelings of characters as they embark on a journey that is filled with fear and excitement. This book is a part of four short story extension books. The other three are based around Peter, Susan and Edmund. Each book follows a different child. These four books may not be ones that are read more than once if at all but they are still worth a place on shelves for fans of The Chronicles Of Narnia. Each short story adds something new and interesting to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe so I recommend giving them a read. Even if they aren't the best of stories, they are only really short books that can be finished in the blink of an eye.

Rating: 3/5 stars

I would have given this book a one star rating if it did not add to the story of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.

Book Review | Frank Cavallo | Eye Of The Storm

Eye of the Storm

This book was sent to me for free. This book was sent to me by the publisher. This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.

Author: Frank Cavallo
Title: Eye Of The Storm
Genre: Fantasy, Fiction

Pages: 395
Price: £14.35

Started: 31st December 2016
Finished: 23rd January 2017

Synopsis: On a research mission in one of the most remote regions of the world, former Navy SEAL Eric Slade and Dr. Anna Fayne are caught in a mysterious storm. Catapulted through a rift in space-time, they are marooned on a lost world. Struggling to survive and desperate to find a way home, they must confront the dangers of this savage land - a dark wizard and his army of undead - a warrior queen and her horde of fierce Neanderthals that stand against him - and a legendary treasure with the power to open the gateway between worlds or to destroy them all: the eye of the storm.

Review: Firstly, I would like to thank the author for his amazing imagination and the hours that must have been put into making this work of art a reality. Secondly, I would also like to thank the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Lately, I have struggled to fall into a book straight from the beginning and that it takes me slowly reading through the first few chapters to become lost in the book. This story has a fantasy and action filled story line that will keep the reader hooked at hours at a time. This book just keeps you wanting to read more and more and you just can't wait to see what is going to happen next. This was an excellent read and I was hooked on the story line. The way that this book is written makes the reader feel like they are a  part of the story line and are stood in the shadows watching the narrative play out. This novel had a lot of action throughout and that made it almost impossible for me to put the book down and stop reading. The only slight negative for me was that the last few chapters were a little slow for my liking; I was expecting there to be more action in the final chapters of this book. However, this is still an excellent book that I would highly recommend to fans of the fantasy genre.

Book Review | C.L. Coffey | Angel In Training

Angel in Training

This book was sent to me for free. This book was sent to me by the author. This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.

Author: C.L. Coffey
Title: Angel In Training
Genre: Angels, Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult
Pages: 297
Price: £8.99
Series: Louisiangel

Started: 6th November 2016
Finished: 19th November 2016

Synopsis: After a night out turns fatal, a misunderstanding with the archangel Michael presents Angel with a chance at eternal life: the opportunity to earn her wings and one day become an archangel herself. Angel is given the task of protecting her charge, trainee detective, Joshua Walsh. There's no denying the attraction between Angel and Joshua, only Michael has strict rules:
  • No drinking
  • No drugs
  • And certainly no relationships with humans
Thankfully, she's got other things to deal with, like trying to convince Joshua that New Orleans has a serial killer who is preying on other angel potentials like herself. Angel must quickly learn that when keeping someone safe, doing the right thing is not always the easiest, especially when you've got an archangel looking over your shoulder.

Review: I would like to thank the author for sending me a signed copy of this book along with a signed bookmark. I will have to buy the rest of the series to have the complete set on my shelves. Originally I was unsure that I would like this book but wanted the rest of the books just so I had the full set. However, it turns out that I actually loved this book and cannot wait to own and read the rest of the series. When this book was offered to me I read the synopsis and decided that it might be an interesting read but I did not realise just how interesting it would be. This book is action packed and keeps the reader on the edge of their seats wondering who the killer is and if Angel will ever earn her wings. I found myself lost between the pages of this book for hours at a time. Angel In Training ends on quite a cliffhanger that made me wish I could jump straight into the second book in the series. I cannot wait to own the rest of the series and find out what happens with Angel and the other potentials along with the fight that the angels are preparing for. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult and paranormal novels. This book will have a permanent place on my shelves and surely be joined by the rest of the series and other books by C.L. Coffey.

Review:
I would like to thank the publisher for sending me and my sister a copy of this book to review (my sister's review will be up at a later date). This was an excellent read and it was worth every second I spent with my head buried in this book. This is a book that I could read many times over and still enjoy it as much as the first time. At the start of the book the plot went by a little slowly so I was worried about getting into it fully but the more I read the better the plot became. Overall, I am glad that I stuck with the book or else I would have regretted not finishing such an amazing book. If I had given up at the start I would not have known how good this book was and my review would have been incomplete as well as incorrect. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and war related books. After reading this story I would definitely read more books by Simon Laffy. In my opinion this a worthy investment and my collection is better off for having this book as a part of it.

Review:
This is the seventh book in the Cirque Du Freak series. I bought all twelve of the books in the Cirque Du Freak series at a local second hand shop. These books cost 99p and come on a buy one get one free offer. The more books from the set that I read, the more invested in Darren Shan I become. When I finish a book from this series I cannot wait to pick up the next one. The Cirque Du Freak book box-set next fails to keep me hooked to the plots. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to continue on with the rest of the series and I will be sad to see it end when I finish the last book. When reading this book I found myself lost in the pages for many hours at a time. Darren Shan has a way of writing that can make the reader feel like they are an invisible bystander to the lives of the characters and not just reading a book. I am very invested in this book set and find it to be an excellent and cohesive read from one book to the next. I would highly recommend these books to anyone with an interest in Young Adult and Paranormal books. These books are a quick and easy read. In the near future I am planning to buy this set brand new and donating the used copies back to a second hand shop so that someone else can experience the brilliance of Darren Shan's books.

Only one thing is certain - Darren's initiation into the clan is more deadly than he can ever have imagined.

Review:
This is the fourth book in the Cirque Du Freak series. I bought all twelve of the books in the Cirque Du Freak series at a local second hand shop. These books cost 99p and come on a buy one get one free offer. I really enjoyed this book and have high hopes for the rest of the series. It did take me a while to get into this book as the start was quite slow but once I did I found that I could not put the book down. As I mentioned at first the book started a bit slow but as the action picked up I found myself getting lost in this book. Whilst reading this book I felt like I was a part of this story and like I was actually experiencing the events and not just reading about what was happening. In my opinion it is the sign of a good book when the reader feels like they are living the story and not reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in young adult and paranormal stories. In the near future I plan to buy these books brand new and donate the used ones to a second hand shop so that someone else can experience the brilliance of Darren Shan.

This is the third book in the Cirque Du Freak series. I bought all twelve of the books in the Cirque Du Freak series at a local second hand shop. These books cost 99p and come on a buy one get one free offer. This was an extremely enjoyable read and I found that I could not put this book down. Review:
This is the second book in the Cirque Du Freak series. I bought all twelve of the books in the Cirque Du Freak series at a local second hand shop. These books cost 99p and come on a buy one get one free offer. After reading the first book I just knew I had to read the full set one after the other. Although I did not enjoy this book as much as I did the first, it was still a very good read. This was an interesting read and it is an important part of the series. So far I am enjoying this book series and I am glad that I was able to get my hands on the full book series. I would recommend this book series (in my opinion it's important to finish a book series if you start it) to anyone with an interest in the young adult and paranormal fiction genres. So far these two books have been good reads and I am sure that the rest will be too.
